More About Dr.

Hargett

Christopher Hargett, DO, is a board certified Neurosurgeon. He joined Huntsville Hospital’s Spine & Neuro Center in July 2022 after building an extensive medical practice in South Alabama.

Moving to the Rocket City represented a homecoming of sorts for Dr. Hargett, who was born and raised in Northwest Alabama and still has family in the Shoals area. His very first job was washing dishes at Russellville Hospital, but seeing his mother undergo a serious illness propelled him to do more in the medical field.

He went to the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed their Physician’s Assistant program in 1996. After working in Tuscaloosa as a board certified physician’s assistant with a focus on spine procedures, he decided to go to medical school and become a Neurosurgeon.

Dr. Hargett earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. From there, he completed a six-year Neurosurgery residency at Advocate-BroMenn Healthcare in Chicago.

Dr. Hargett brings 11 years of care in complex surgical conditions of the spine and brain to our practice. He specializes in minimally-invasive back surgery procedures, thoracic and lumbar conditions, and cranial and peripheral nerve treatments.  He treats spine and brain issues such as:

  • Lower back and neck pain
  • Herniated discs
  • Spinal fractures
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Brain tumors
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Spondylolistheses
  • Pituitary tumor resection
  • Spine and brain trauma

Dr. Hargett also has extensive training in cubital tunnel releases and uses Kyphoplasty for compression fractures, lumbar fusions, anterior cervical discectomy and arthroplasty. His goal for all patients is to have the best outcome possible.

In his spare time, Dr. Hargett enjoys traveling with his wife and two sons. He’s an avid outdoorsman who loves to fish and hunt.
