We know things are getting a little chaotic out there! We wanted to put this list together of ways to really help your local community during this time of uncertainty. Just a few suggestions below!
Order meals for delivery or takeout
Avoiding the crowds? Try ordering in or getting takeout.
Lots of local places offer delivery plus you can utilize the local delivery services as well! Be sure to tip well!
Was your event canceled?
If your event was canceled, another way to help local organizations is to not ask for a refund. Unless a refund is really needed, think about donating those ticket dollars to the organization. Lots of local places will be feeling the impact of recent closing and a loss in attendees.
Spend time Outdoors
1. Visit Monte Sano Mountain, just paying admission helps fund the State Park all year long. Plus, you can spend time outdoors!
2. Find a local park or greenway. Use this Park, Trail, and Greenway Guide to help you decide on a few new adventures.
3. Rent a Pace Bike Downtown and explore the area on a bike! You can easily disinfect the bike you plan to use and enjoy riding around the Downtown area.
Looking for home activities?
Buy local! Check out a few of these places to find things to do at home with friends and family like games and toys.
Is it time to clean out some clutter? Gather your clothes, books, toys, and other items you may not be using now and donate them! This is a great time to clean out your closet and give things to those who may need them.
Gift Card it up!
Do you have extra money to spend? Grab gift cards at your favorite hangouts to help small business and it will be a fun spend later. Treat yo’ self – at a later date, treat the business owner now.
Missing Local Music?
Check out this Huntsville Spotify List and listen to some of your favorite artists all in one place! You can still support local arts while your staying in.
Do you have any elderly neighbors, relatives, or friends? Check in and make sure they don’t need a grocery or pharmacy run. It can be harder for them to get out with the current climate.
Donate to your local food bank. The schools will be closing and extra meals will be needed for lots of local children and families. It’s the perfect time to donate nonperishable food items.
As a community, Huntsville is one of the bests. We can work together to get through this! Tell us other ideas for helping the community in the comments!
