The heat is almost a menace in Alabama – and that’s coming from a cold-blooded gal who loves hot weather.

It can be almost oppressive in the mid-summer months, but luckily North Alabama has plenty of watering holes for you to cool off the way nature intended.

Caney Creek Falls

Driving Time: Around an 1.5 hours from Huntsville

It is a bit of a hike in to see the falls (about 3 miles) but once you get to the falls there is a lovely pool to swim in and easy access behind the waterfalls.

Joe Wheeler State Park Beach

Driving Time: 1 hour from Huntsville

Located in the picnic area, the sandy beach at Joe Wheeler State Park is the perfect place to fish, swim, and play outdoor games.

High Falls

Driving Time: About 1 hour and 15 minutes from Huntsville

This one is also a small hike down to the falls, but visitors can walk across the span of the falls and hike further down to the river at the bottom.

Martha’s Falls aka “The Hippie Hole”

Driving Time: 1.5 hours from Huntsville

Located in Little Falls, The Hippie Hole is a beautiful Instagram-worthy hole that is popular during the summer months and photo-worthy for you and your friends.

So what are you waiting for, Huntsville?

Do something about those trickles of sweat and experience the sweet, watery relief this list has to offer.

BONUS

Flint River

Driving Time: Around 45 minutes from Huntsville

The Flint is a lovely place to float, but for swimming, you want to head to the spot behind Flint Primitive Baptist Church off of Everett Road.
