It’s time to celebrate the love of reading at The Huntsville Library Foundation‘s annual Vive le Livre 2013! At Vive, the Foundation brings world renowned authors to Huntsville to share their experiences with the community. This year, author Rick Bragg will speak at the Von Braun Center on Thursday September 12th from 6-10pm.
To help you get to know Mr. Bragg before Vive le Livre 2013, here are 7 things you should know about him:
#1: Awards
In 1996, Bragg received the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Writing for his coverage of the Oklahoma City bombing.

#3: Alabama Native
Bragg was born in the small city of Piedmont in northeastern Alabama.

His mother supported the family by picking cotton, taking in other people’s laundry, and cleaning houses for the more prosperous families in the area.

Bragg is the author of three best-selling memoirs about his family and the working class people of the foothills of the Appalachians: All Over But the Shoutin’, Ava’s Man and The Prince of Frogtown.

Intrigued by Mr. Bragg? Want to hear him speak in person? You’re in luck! You can hear him speak this Thursday, September 12th at Vive le Livre 2013! The event starts at 6 p.m. in the Thurber Arts Center auditorium on the Randolph School campus, 4915 Garth Road. Tickets start at $75 and include Rick’s talk as well as a book-signing and dessert reception.
#9: The Cause: Huntsville Library Foundation
The proceeds from the Vive le Livre 2013 support The Huntsville Library Foundation. Established in 1986 to support the Huntsville-Madison County Library, the Foundation believes that a great Library helps make a great community. As advocates for the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library System, the Huntsville Library Foundation raises awareness and funds to purchase books and other materials that the Library uses to inspire readers and improve our community’s quality of life.
