Tired of political chatter? Depressed about gas prices? Tense about insurance? Exhausted after a long summer with the kids?
It’s time to travel back in time….back to a simpler day when music sounded big..really big.
Big Music
Nothing sounds bigger or better than Glen Miller! Unless you throw in the big band jazz of count Basie or Duke Ellington! And in Huntsville, no one does that better than the nineteen-piece Rocket City Jazz Orchestra.
But you just can’t listen to all those layers of musical goodness without getting up and dancing, can you? Lucky for you this Saturday night is the Huntsville Swing Dance Society annual Sock Hop…accompanied by the Rocket City Jazz Orchestra!
If Your friends don’t dance…
Don’t know the moves? No problem, the HSDS’s got your back. Show up at 7pm for a dance lesson and you’ll be ready to cut the rug when the Sock Hop starts at 8pm.
All this musical/dance magic happens at the Flying Monkey on the second floor at Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment. It costs $10 for general admission, and students (with id) pay $7.
Dress it up
And since you’re going back in time, be sure and dress the part! Costumes welcome! Time to suck it up and get those super tight jeans on, slicked back hair for guys and if you’ve got a poodle skirt, now’s the time to put it on!
