Just off Hwy 431 past Hampton Cover and winding along the Flint River, is Operation Green Team’s Hayes Nature Preserve. It’s beautiful with over 10 miles of trails suitable for foot, bike and even horse traffic. It’s also a pretty impressive birding trail, so I’m told…and there’s also a great playground for kids. This Saturday, however, the Preserve will be seeing a very different kind of traffic: the artistic kind during the Paint at the Preserve event.
New Addition
One of the more recent additions is a new classroom building that overlooks the water. The building is great with TONS of natural light, and a view that is postcard-perfect. That’s where Paint at the Preserve will be this coming Saturday from 9:30am to 11am. Painting with kids is always something I enjoy, and being in such a gorgeous location makes it extra special!
Young Artists
One thing I’ve noticed in painting with kids is that it goes much faster than with adults, and I figured out why; when kids paint they don’t have a panel of critics in their heads judging their every move…they just paint. That’s inspiring.
Kids are also not as restricted to reality as adults are. If they want to paint a flower with a purple stem, and lady bugs with eyelashes, hey, why not? It’s art, right? It’s supposed to be colorful! I really do love painting with kids for this exact reason. They have not forgotten that there are some things in life that you can do just for fun.
Paint at the Preserve
So Saturday morning I’ll take my canvases, paints, aprons and brushes back to Hayes for another painting session with some enthusiastic artists, and we’ll paint the most colorful butterflies you’ve ever seen! There are still some seats available for Saturday (it was completely full on the March 18 Paint day). Call 256-532-5326 to reserve your kid’s seat!
