All adventures from our list are within 60 miles of Huntsville, so you don’t have to travel far to have fun!
Hiking & Mountain Biking
The Land Trust preserves land and manages entrusted land. There are 48+ miles of trails available for the public to use. Click for trail maps.
Located on top of Green Mountain, the Madison County Nature Trail is free and open to the public inside a 72 acre park. This is a great hike for families of all ages.
Monte Sano Sate Park has 22 miles of mountain trails for hiking or biking.
Operation Green Team (City of Huntsville)’s 10 miles of trails on Hays Nature Preserve are suitable for hiking, biking or horseback riding.
- SORBA Huntsville (Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association)
Founded in 2005, the Huntsville chapter of SORBA (Southern Off-road Bicycling Association) supports mountain bike advocacy, builds and maintains trails for multiple users, and serves as a resource for the mountain bike community of North Alabama. A membership cycling club that has group rides weekly, including regular century rides, in addition to bike advocacy and education.
Though JB Motocross is the closest to Huntsville, there are several motocross and ATV tracks in North Alabama.

Idlewild provides the outdoor rock climbing wall that you’ve seen around Huntsville (think Downtown Huntsville, Inc. food truck events). Idlewild also leads guided rock climbing trips as close as Yellow Bluff, which is 45 minutes from Huntsville.
ACA has a full service indoor rock wall with 25′ walls.
The Huntsville Grotto is an official club of the National Speleological Society, an organization dedicated to the study, protection, and exploration of caves.
The National Speleological Society is actually based in Huntsville.
