My parents love to tell the story of the day that I learned how to read. Or at least I convinced myself that I could read by memorizing Dr. Seuss’ Hop on Pop, and therefore announced to my parents and anyone who would listen that I could.
The reason my parents love to tell this story (other than the fact that it is pretty amusing) is the sheer joy that radiated from my tiny blonde self at being able to read. (In case you’re wondering shortly after this amusing incident I did actually learn to read) Sure this may seem like a cute little story, but why am I telling it to you?
Book Lover’s Day
Because this Thursday August 9th is Book Lovers Day, a day to celebrate not only the love of reading but books themselves. You remember books, right? Those paper things with the words?
Some of you might be asking in this highly technological age where everything is digital, what place do books have? Plenty I say! Because as much as I love my technology (and I do!) physical books will always have a special place in my heart. As will libraries. I remember the joy of going to the library as child. The thrill of picking out books from the shelves.
And our local libraries have so many great programs to offer. All you have to do is take advantage of them. From storytime for the little ones to concerts for the whole family, they’ve got something for everyone. Read about our blogger’s Heather’s adventures at her local library here.Want to know what programs are going on at your local branch?
