Who It Benefits?
Since its beginning in 1989, the Huntsville Classic has raised more than $5.5 million to benefit Huntsville Hospital.
Classic proceeds have provided cutting-edge technology and funded programs that benefit the entire community.
Proceeds this year will benefit the new SPEAK (Suicide Prevention Empowerment Awareness Knowledge) program – a collaboration of the Foundation and Huntsville Hospital with local mental health organizations, public schools, and private schools.
SPEAK will feature an education program that will address the following for children and teens:
- Feelings, self-esteem, coping skills
- Depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses
- Suicide awareness, education, and prevention
- Symptoms and behaviors exhibited by children and teens in distress
- What to do when faced with suicidal thoughts, or when helping a friend who has expressed suicidal thoughts
Through a partnership with one of the Leadership Huntsville/Madison County Class 30, there will also be an app to supply “at your fingertips” resources for anyone who is in danger of hurting themselves, and for friends, teachers, and parents who are supporting someone who is exhibiting dangerous behavior and symptoms.
