When I was a kid, I remember the challenge was to see who could keep the hoop going around their waist the longest. If you were really good you could transfer the looping hoop from one arm to the other.
Fire breathing hoopers!
Grace and art
But I was blown away the first time I saw the hoopers at Lowe Mill. If you’ve ever been to A Good Day or the Concerts on the Dock, you have probably seen them as well.
It’s amazing to watch them hoop dance! Seriously, it’s graceful and artistic, and they make it look so effortless, I thought I could do it too.
Bahahahahah!
A little bit of Hula,
a lot of Hooping
So it’s a good thing that this Saturday, August 4th is Hula Hooping Day at Lowe Mill from 4-6pm. And it’s very good thing that from 4-5 pm there will be a FREE hula hoop lesson (I am so there). From 5-6pm is the Hoop Dance Party, and everyone is welcome!
This is a joint effort between Circle Motion Hoops and Healthy Huntsville as part of its 100 free events designed to get Huntsville active in fun and interesting ways. This will definitely be fun and interesting. You can read more about Healthy Huntsville here.
Get your workout
Besides being a lot of fun, hoola hooping is a great workout! Don’t believe me? Here are some of the benefits of hooping:
- A cardiovascular workout for people of wide range of ages.
- One hour of hooping can burn up to 600 calories.
- Strengthens your core, stretches muscles, and helps to tone your body.
- A fun and great way to work out
