Hearts! They were everywhere for weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day. I will not miss them or the candy and sweets that came along with the holiday of love. Okay, confession: I’ll miss the conversation hearts. Those are truly a once-a-year treat. But it’s a relief to see an end to the endless hearts. That is, unless you think about the real one. The heart that’s beating in your chest right now and that still wants to keep feeling good after all of the Valentines-induced love proclamations have ended. That’s where the American Heart Association comes in.
First, the American Heart Association has two great events coming up. The Huntsville Heart Society Ball is February 25, starting at 6 p.m. at the Westin. Featuring 400 guests in black tie, the Heart Society Ball has been going strong for seven years now. The North Alabama Heart Walk is March 17 at 9 a.m., also at the Westin. These are the two main fundraising events for the American Heart Association in Huntsville.
Second, they still need volunteers for both of these events. And we all know volunteering makes the heart feel good! In fact, there are over 100 volunteers needed to make these two events successful. Many American Heart Association volunteers have been personally touched in some way by heart disease or stroke. To them, helping this organization is a way forward in treating and preventing cardiovascular disease. Other volunteers are the dedicated employees of sponsor companies, or students who make volunteering a priority.
Here’s how you can get involved:
- Heart Society Ball – About 10 – 15 volunteers are still needed, mainly for set-up and clean-up of the event.
- North Alabama Heart Walk – Still need 20 – 25 people to assist with this event.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact Katie Caldwell, Assistant Director, at email@example.com or 800-257-6941 x 1508.
If you would rather attend the events, you can purchase tickets to attend the Heart Society Ball. Tickets are available on the website and are $175 per person. There’s still time to form a team to walk for the North Alabama Heart Walk. Get creative and competitive about how your team raises money.
Bonus – Bridge Street Town Centre is offering special $10 shopping passes through February 26, with all proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association. The shopping pass means savings at participating stores and restaurants.
Whether volunteering or attending for fun, consider ways to keep that heart happy by showing some love to the American Heart Association.
