Marking the passage of spring, the Huntsville Botanical Garden is ready to experience renewal with their annual Spring Festival of Flowers and Plant Sale. The Botanical Garden will be abuzz with wildflowers, dogwoods, perennials, shrubs, and natives which are ideally selected for our region during the month of April. With numerous outdoor rooms to visit, there is an idea to bring home to every garden.
Bringing the Botanical Garden to Your Backyard
I have clients ask me when I am designing their yard, “How can I include a particular plant that I have seen at the Huntsville Botanical Garden?” Often these plants are harder than others to find through the typical garden centers. As a part of the Festival, the garden’s plant sale affords opportunity to bring some of the wonderful plants to your own yards.
Your Plant Problems Solved
One such plant is the natives available. They can be a key element to solving a problem that everybody would like in their yard, and that is to minimize the maintenance of the garden. These plants require less water, which helps prevent erosion. By using less water, you are also eliminating weeds from germinating in the washed mulch and soil, saving you time and money. Thus making your garden more enjoyable.
Because these planta are native, they help to establish shelter and food for wildlife and do not requirement pesticides, and fertilizers unlike other plants and lawn areas. Using these plants along with other naturalized plants can help your make your own garden everything you want it to be.
For more information on these and other plants, come down to the Huntsville Botanical Garden, take a tour during the spring festival and visit the plant sale. Make sure to talk to a garden staff member and bring some of these plants home to your own garden.
