Parents of a two year old girl and a five year old boy are usually, well, tired. But even as tired parents it is not only important to make special time for yourself and with your spouse, but it is also important to spend time together as a family. This is why I find myself not only making date nights for me and my husband but also for my family as a whole.
Busy, Busy, Busy
We are a busy household with school, sports, community, church, and family events. When we decide to do a family date night we try to come up with something that is all about the kids, their favorite place to eat, their favorite activity, and/or something we don’t get to do often enough.
Saturday at the Library
This month we decided to take a Saturday afternoon and do something we don’t get to do often as a family: go to the library. We just went by our local branch of the Huntsville Madison County Public Library (Bailey Cove).
The kids got to pick some new books and a movie, play with puzzles, enjoy the children’s computer area, and play in the puppet theater. They had a blast and look forward to returning the books and movie for new ones in a few weeks.
My 5 year old son even has his own library card and enjoyed using the self-checkout kiosk. The best part about this is that is was all free. An hour of entertainment both of my children enjoyed and it didn’t cost me a dime, that is unless I forget to return the items on time. 🙂
Chow Down
After the library it was off to one of the kids favorite places to eat, CiCi’s Pizza. Now if I were choosing a pizza restaurant, this would not be my top choice, but this night is about the kids, and the kids love it there.
My kids love trying all the different styles of pizza, pasta, and pastry type desserts. My husband LOVES a buffet, and I love that kids under 3 eat free, so everyone is happy.
After dinner we all came home and enjoyed the movie and new bedtime stories we got at the library. It was fun, it was frugal, and it was family.
Does your family do a date night? What are some of your favorite spots to go and/or eat?

We do family date nights! We swap out who gets to choose where we eat and what we do. There is quite a difference between what mom or dad choose versus thing 1 or 2. But, we always have fun!
