Autumn is open for business!
However you look at it, we want you to enjoy this gorgeous weather and take advantage of pumpkin everything.
You deserve it… because 2020!
Here are a few of our favorite fall activities that are 100% outside.
4 Ways to Have Fall Fun Outdoors
1. Have a Picnic
We have such beautiful places for an Autumn picnic. A couple of favorite spots include:
You can also picnic in Big Spring Park during the Socially Distant Food Truck All Stars on October 16.
2. Take a Walk
If you want a change-up from your normal hikes (which are way better in cooler weather because less snakes) try a Huntsville Ghost Walk or even the new History-on-a-Stick Walking Tour (October 4, 2 – 4 pm).
Another fun event is Broadway Theatre Leagues “Walk to Broadway” event. You can sign up and walk starting Friday, September 25.
You can also just hit a greenway for a stroll. One of Huntsville’s greatest treasures is its miles of paved walkways.
PRO TIP: On the weekends, hit your local school’s paved running track. It’s a great place to get your miles in.
3. Use Your Wheels
Outdoor Fall fun should include bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller skates and more. Why?? Because cooler weather means less sweat!
If you don’t have wheels of your own, check out the Downtown Huntsville bike share program with Tandem Mobility bikes. The 11 bike stations stations include Big Spring East, Big Spring West, Butler Green, Five Points, Jefferson/Holmes, Lumberyard, Roundhouse, Twickenham Square, Visitor’s Center, Washington/Clinton and Westside Square. Riders will pay a simple $2 per 30 minutes of riding.
PRO TIP: Skateboarding has picked up as a (newish) hobby for many folks during the pandemic, including this author. If you haven’t skated since the ’90s, what are you waiting for?
4. Pick Something
You can find apples at Scott’s Orchard and pick them yourself. If you are feeling really adventurous, take them home and make a new recipe. We recommend something baked with lots of brown sugar!
We are all looking to have fun and enjoy the best of the Tennessee Valley weather! Many of us also have other reasons for maybe keeping to the outdoors. You can be 100% outside and not miss out on a thing with this list.
Happy Autumn Huntsville!
