Where’s the Peppered Pig food truck? They have by far the best burgers and sandwiches in town!!!!
We’ve heard great things about Peppered Pig. They will be on my radar for sure in 2015!
The Cuban sandwich @ The Peppered Pig is absolutely wonderful.
Great list, but you left off a white hot or a chili dog from Rocket Dog food truck!
I do love Rocket Dog’s chili dog! That’s a great suggestion!
We would have to add the sweet potato fries at Commerce Kitchen. Those are insane! Great list by the way…now we have some new things/places to try!
I LOVE the sweet potato fries from Commerce Kitchen too! Glad you like our list!
That is my FAVORITE!! I get them every time I eat at Commerce Kitchen 🙂
Where is Commerce Kitchen?
ALABAMA’S FOOTBALL TEAM SAID THE BEST FOOD IN NEW ORLEANS WAS POPEYE’S CHICKEN!!!! I DO LOVE IT TOO!!!
BEST BRISKET: CHUCKWAGON BBQ
BEST WINGS IN TOWN: CRICKET’S IN MADISON BY FAR THE VERY BEST OF ALL!!!!
BEST BBQ SANDWICH EVER: WHITT’S ON 6TH AVENUE, DECATUR, AL
BEST WESTERN OMLETTE: SUNNY STREET CAFE
BEST CLUB SANDWICH: SUNNY STREET CAFE
BEST FRENCH ONION SOUP: SUNNY STREET CAFE
BEST NACHOS: ROSIE’S CANTINA
BEST DONUTS BY FAR: KRISPY KREME
Thanks for the other tasty suggestions, Sarah! Sadly there wasn’t room to include ALL the delicious offerings in Madison County.
Commerce Kitchen is on the Southside Square in Downtown Huntsville, next to Harrison Brothers Hardware. Great suggestions on your list!
The corn nuggets at Leeann’s are fantastic but she also has the best club sandwich in town…
Adding their club sandwich to my list, Tommy! Thanks 🙂
I would have to agree with the diva martini from Bar Louie’s, that is a good martini. The flourless chocolate torte from Mason-Dixon is sublime and those crepes from Sady’s are Mmmmmm…. dreamy! Have to say, I really wish 3 Skillets hadn’t closed – their chorizo-stuffed quail & waffles was to die for, and was my first dining-out experience in Huntsville.. Broke my heart when they closed.
Me too, Constance! LOVED Three Skillets, but you can get a lot of their offerings at Sandwich Farm.
Can’t wait to try some of these on the list. Just had a Diva martini at Bar Louie yesterday! My favorite lunch spot was missing. – the marketplace Cafe at the
Interior Marketplace!! Their tomato basil soup and salads, especially the berries and blue is perfection!!
That is a great lunch spot. Thanks for the suggestion!
Great list. Will have to try them all. Phil Sandoval’s has the best chili relleno on the planet.
Never had those at Phil Sandoval’s, Deana. I always fill up on their amazing cheese dip. I’ll make sure and save room next time 🙂
Not a single dish from Thai Garden?? Best eggrolls on the planet!!!
Hi Brent,
Big Thai Garden fan here and they are represented with #64. Great suggestion on their eggrolls!
cotton Rows signature dessert the peanut butter and jelly thing was both awful and cheap! The service was also awful and the one stall bathroom was filthy! The waiters knew we were greatly disappointed and rightfully so but took no steps besides verbally saying they were sorry, if we had been at a real first class place like Ruth Chris, they would have comped and given complimentary something! Ruth Chris is Huntsville’s top restaurant in my opinion, their fried oysters are amazing! And their MIKE high chocolate mousse was a real top notch dessert! I’ve been back to Ruth Chris several times and never disappointed! Their waiters want me, the customer to receive the quality in which their prices reflect, Cotton Row is just depending on advertisements like this to get people in but did not earn me as a customer!
Thanks for your comments Sandy. We agree that Ruth’s Chris is great but we were focused on locally and regionally based restaurants. Ruth’s Chris is a national chain.
And just to clarify, our selections were based on independent feedback and aren’t an advertisement.
Sticky chewy chocolate pop
Rocket City Pops!
That sounds delicious! Am going to investigate immediately, Alex. Anything with chocolate is a winner in my book.
Excellent list! I just pinned it to Pinterest so when we are wondering what to eat we can always have a reference!
GREAT idea!!
Hi! I would highly recommend the BLT Pizza, Hot Wing Pizza and the Loaded Baked Potato Pizza from Stevi B’s Pizza!!! These are all AWESOME!!! It’s family friendly, very clean and the service is wonderful!!! …a GREAT all around place to eat! AND, it’s a buffet so the whole family can choose from a variety of pizzas to satisfy their tastes along with pasta, salad and breadsticks!!!
Those do sound delicious, Missy! We wanted this list to be about foods that represented Huntsville. Since there are SO many places to eat, we focused on locally and regionally based restaurants.
Best hush puppies by far are from Cajun Cafe in Lacey Springs. We drive over to get a dozen to eat all by themselves.
Thanks to Our Valley Events for including New Market BBQ’s Smoked Mac n Cheese (aka Smac n Cheese) in your list of things to try in 2015. Grateful to all who recommended it!
Looking forward to trying so many new places you’ve listed here. As local business owners, we sure appreciate you guys sharing such great compilations.
We’re always working so it’s hard to keep up with all the new places and you make it easy for us to find a new place to try on our days off! Awesome! Keep up the great work!! Happy New Year!
Thank you Libby!!
Viet Sandwich has a great pork sandwich.
Salmon and Kale salad at Another Broken Egg Café is to die for!
Sounds amazing! Great suggestion.
Fried Wickles from Baumhauer’s or Lettuce Wraps from PF Changs
We agree on all of these (especially Bang Bang Shrimp)! We tried to keep focus on locally and regionally based restaurants, which is why you don’t see names like P.F. Changs or Bonefish.
Bang Bang Shrimp from Bonefish
Great suggestions- looking forward to trying out many of these! Except Mullins… Really #3? While I admit it’s inexpensive, the food is haphazardly prepared and plated, the ingredients are cheap and taste it, the environment is stale and the waitstaff take turns between being utterly bored and thoroughly annoyed with anyone who walks in. It may have once been a Huntsville gem, but those days are long over.
I agree regarding Mullins. Sad because it used to be a great place.
Check out the cookies from Tickled Pink Cookie Boutique!
Soups
Spicy Goulash – Hildegard’s
Corn Crab Soup – Terranova’s
Frijoles Barrachos Soup – El Palacio
Many Thai and Vietnamese places in town do great soups too…
Something unique – Curry Wurst – Hildegard’s
SOUP! Great soup list Russell! Thanks for that.
Fantastic list! I could have asked a friend to slip my name in somewhere for me but, If I may, I would like to personally invite everyone to lunch! We think our Vegetarian Sandwich is dynamite! The Vegetarian comes with your choice of house made Lemon Rosemary Ricotta or Hummus and Baby Spinach, Tender Kale, Cucumbers, Roasted Red Bell Peppers and Artichoke Hearts on Toasted Spinach and Feta Fred Bread (local).
Or try our best seller…The Famous Green Chili Cheese BLT on Bacon Fred Bread with Lettuce and Tomato! These two menu items are among a slew of fresh, made to order soups, sandwiches, salads and specials! We’d love the chance to “wow” you! Carrie of Carrie’s Kitchen, 100 Jefferson St. (downtown Huntsville)
We’ll be there for lunch soon! Sounds delicious.
El Palacio has the best refried beans in town! Great enchiladas, too! It’s an oldie but a goodie! 🙂
WTF, no ruben from maggie meyers!?
Maggie Meyers is on my list of places to try EVERYTHING on the menu!
I decided to take this challenge on, but heard from a co worker that Mullin’s just closed. I hate for my adventure to be doomed before it even began. 🙁
Oh no! Hadn’t heard that Mullins closed.
Great list but living in Hartselle means I am not familiar with a lot of the spots on this list.
Would be nice to have links/websites and/or physical addresses included to assist with taking this challenge.
And for those adding suggested locations in your comments again location would be helpful.
And another thought – a printable version to check off and throw in my glove box for quick reference when I’m out just riding around.
Well at least you don’t want much…..
That’s not a bad idea Gary! We’ll see what we can do. And thank you for the suggestions. 🙂
I’m no longer located in Huntsville but I have to say the places I miss the most are Surin, Sam and Greg’s and Amendment XXI. Surin’s Nam Tok Beef is amazing but a little pricy, however, their Thai Beef Salad is very similar and a fraction of the cost. And you pretty much can’t go wrong with any of Amendment XXI’s handcrafted cocktails. My favorites were, when in season, Lavender Liason and Spring at 123.
Surin’s Thai Beef Salad is a favorite of mine too! Doesn’t this list make you want to plan a trip back?
Great List! I will be pinning to Pinterest also. I do need to say Nick’s Ristorante on Bailey Cove is a hidden gem!!! Their filet is melt in your mouth indulgence! Their duck breast appetizer with mandarin pecan glaze so savory and rich! And finally their Italian selection beats all….. Northern Italian…. Veal Marsala with Mushroom Risotto CAN NOT BE BEAT! Lastly the atmosphere is AMAZING! Wait maybe I shouldn’t tell everyone my secret favorite place in Huntsville 😉
Nick’s seems to be a lot of folk’s secret favorite place. The cat’s out of the bag! 🙂
Ham and Bean soup and Hildegards!
House salad at Mezza Luna.
love the idea of being able to print the list out and keep it in the car for those ‘spur of the moment’ lunch or dinner outings. Thanks so much for providing this list for those of us that love to try something new….especially focused on local fare! 🙂
Chocolate Puffalo at Stem and Stein is to die for!! So yummy! Best Dessert in town!
Ole Hickory in New Market not only has awesome BBQ, they also have the best smoked chicken quarters and absolutely the best Chocolate Pie since my Granny’s. Drew is a talented Chef!! If you are a lover of great service and luscious desserts give them a try! Ole Hickory is family owned and operated. If you missed them, you should take a trip out to New Market and give those pies a taste.
