My in-laws are awesome people and I am lucky enough to enjoy spending time with them.
However, even after almost 10 years (!!) of marriage, I still want to impress them.
So when they come into town and look to me for dinner recommendations, I have high standards.
It needs to be someplace with excellent food, reliable service, a good selection of wine or beer (ideally both), and a quiet enough ambiance for conversation.
Given that high bar to clear, here are some of the spots I choose:
Hildegard’s
Quality german food, a small patio, and a no-rush philosophy makes Hildegard’s an easy place to linger.
They offer a broad beer selection, but the fact that there is no bar means easy conversation, even on Friday and Saturday nights. (Note: this is the original location, they also have a second location near Madison Square Mall).

A wide array of offerings will appeal to sushi lovers and sushi avoiders alike, as will their extensive drink menu. the information below is for the Madison location, but there is also a second restaurant in Jones Valley.

The Original Public House
Offering high concept “pub food”, the menu delivers familiar dishes done well (burgers, fish and chips, salads, the wonderfully addictive beer cheese chips appetizer) which will appeal equally to foodies and “meat and potatoes” eaters.
The full bar offers plenty of beverage options as well. Just remember that on Sundays, the brunch menu is the only menu available all day. There are dinner entree options, but it is more limited than on other days.

I would suggest D&L Bistro just off South Memorial Parkway. All the dishes are great but I favor the Osso Bucco and the Filet (best in Huntsville ). Great French cuisine and quality service. ….never disappointed 🙂
