It musta got into a terrible fight,
Cause when my head hit the pillow it was lookin’ all right,
My hair had a party last night,
When I lay down everything was all right,
It started out friendly but there must have been a fight,
My hair had a party last night.
-Trout Fishing in America
Recognize those lyrics? They are the fun filled, giggle inducing lyrics of Trout Fishing in America, who just happen to be coming to Burritt on the Mountain this Friday, June 22nd for a special family concert.
Music and… Fishing??
For those not familiar with Trout Fishing in America (I’ll just use TFIA from now on. It’s shorter), I’ll give you the scoop. TFIA is made up of two fellows, guitarist/vocalist Ezra Idlet and bassist/vocalist Keith Grimwood. As you may notice from their picture at right, Ezra is a bit taller than Keith. And when I say a bit, I mean Keith stands at 5′ 5 1/2″ with Ezra at 6′ 9″.
This somewhat unlikely duo , together for over 30 years, are known for dominating the kid friendly charts. Their mix of folk/pop and family music is tempered by the influences of reggae, latin, blues, jazz and classical music. And they’ve even racked up a few Grammy nominations along the way, not mention National Indie Awards, multiple Parents Choice Gold and American Library Awards.
The Music
Your sarcophagus is glowing,
but your esophagus is showing,
Who cares how rich you are, love,
when you look like Boris Karloff?
Call Nautilus, they might even refund your dues,
‘Cos you’re all wrapped up in them dead Egyptian blues.
-Dead Egyptian Blues
It’s easy to see why TFIA resonates with their younger fans and their parents. With an entertaining repertoire of songs, their concerts are sure to please fans both young and old.
Here’s a sampling of their songs:
- Day Care Blues
- Alien In My Nose
- My Pants Fell Down
- Beans and Weenies
- Always Chew Your Food
- For Me To Know and You To Find Out
- Curse of the Spinach
- I Don’t Care
- A Tiger and A Monkey and Me
- I’ve Got A Friend (and He Won’t Be Quiet)
- The Fish Swim Backwards in the Sky

A Concert and a View
Friday’s concert will take place at Burritt’s Gazebo. Not only is this one of Huntsville’s favorite attractions, but it boasts THE best view of the city- day or night. Recently restored by Turner Construction, this gazebo has become a landmark feature of Huntsville and surrounding areas. AND it is an amazing spot for concerts.
A-MA-ZING.
If you’ve never been to a concert up there, then you MUST GO! I’m gonna have to insist actually. And what better time than this Friday?
There’s More!
In case you’re still undecided about the concert, I’ll close with two final remarks, which should convince any of you undecided folks out there.
One is a ticket give away. Our Valley Events is sending one family (assuming you have four people in your family) to this Friday’s concert FOR FREE! That’s right, we’re giving a family 4 pack of tickets to this Friday’s concert. Enter below.
And finally, well, I’ll just let the Trout Fishing Boys speak , or rather sing, for themselves…
The chicken ate my homework. It wasn’t my fault.
That psycho chicken thinks that he’s a dog.
Buck, buck, barks at the mailman, always chasing cats.
Ate so many dog biscuits that chicken’s getting fat.
