Sci-Quest is getting a new home! Following a comprehensive search of real estate options in the Tennessee Valley, Sci-Quest Executive Director Cyndy Morgan is excited to announce that Sci-Quest’s new home will be at the Madison Village Shopping Center, next to Old Time Pottery on Madison Blvd.
Current Location:
Calhoun Community College
102-D Wynn Drive
New Home:
Madison Village Shopping Center, next to Old Time Pottery
Address: 9076 Madison Blvd.
The move
Calhoun Community College, where Sci-Quest is currently located, plans to expand in 2013 into the space currently occupied by Sci-Quest.
These plans accelerated the board’s vision to:
- broaden the center’s reach and capabilities to become one of the premier hands-on, STEM learning institutions in the southeast
- enhance Sci-Quest’s role as one of the outstanding attractions in the region.
For the last several months, the Sci-Quest staff and board of directors has conducted a rigorous evaluation of real estate options in north Alabama and worked with local city leaders to select a site that would be the most beneficial to Sci-Quest’s members, customers, surrounding communities and the center itself. About Sci-Quest
Mission: To motivate children to discover and explore the wonders of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through informal, hands-on education experiences and to ultimately correlate their interest to existing and emerging career fields that are vital to the Tennessee Valley economy.
History: Sci-Quest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that opened to the public in May of 1999. Since that time, Sci-Quest has enjoyed a long and valuable relationship with Calhoun Community College as a tenant on the Wynn Drive campus in Huntsville.
Exhibits
Science truly comes to life with Sci-Quest’s Live Science Demonstrations and Activities. And I say this from expierience, having spent a day exploring the exhibits at Sci-Quest not too long ago and had a blast.
- Newton’s Lab: Investigate the laws of motion as we play with eggs, pennies and all sorts of moving stuff! Through some really moving experiments, young scientists will learn that physics can be fun!
- Angular Momentum: This exhibit is very hands (and feet) on-as you can see to the right. That’s me on the exhibit It’s a great way to help explain gravity and as you can see, gravity is not always kind…
- Electromagnetic Spectrum: The newest addition at Sci-Quest. This 10 foot tall exhibit takes concepts like microwaves and the visible light spectrum and breaks them down, explaining them so that children (and children of all ages) can understand them.
- Cells! Life at the Pond: Get up close and personal with cells in this activity area developed in conjunction with HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. See how cells are organized, how they differ from one another and even see samples of microscopic life.[spacer size=”0″]
