What happens when a former clarinet player meets and falls for a former sax player? Or a couple of nerdy band camp kids have kids of their own? A home filled with music and a little boy who sings made up songs like a jazzy scat-style diddy about his baby sister who will not wear her socks. “Baby’s got a hot foot!” Yes, this is my house!
We love music, silly things, and (because I am the queen of frugal) all things free. So when there is a chance to do all three at once that’s music to this mother’s ears. In Huntsville, the mornings of Classical Series concerts, at 10:15 a.m. in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall lobby, you can bring your children, for a FREE event called Opus Tadpole. Children of all ages enjoy discovering the answers to musical mysteries in an interactive and an entertaining way.
Your kids will become musical explorers as they ask questions like, if a saxophone is made of brass why is it a woodwind? Isn’t a piccolo a fried pickle? Warm up is provided by Little Gym of Huntsville and the presentation/activity lasts about 20 minutes for a total of 30 awesome minutes of free musical fun. It is a great way to introduce your young ones to the orchestra or to music in general. You never know, the little one in your house eating all your Captain Crunch may be the next Yo-Yo Ma.
Oh and yes, my family calls the Opus Tadpole event Mr. Holland’s Frog, because, well, Dreyfuss Amphibious is just TOO weird.
