I borrow the timeless words and ever-sticky melody from the Cure when I say, “Thursday I don’t care about you. It’s Friday, I’m in love.” I am in love with the homegrown entertainment gracing the Valley this Friday.
Shake It
First up, for your listening pleasure, we’ve got The Alabama Shakes at Crossroads. You may ask, “Why should I care?” And I would reply, “Because they have Alabama in their name and it is completely sold out.” You heard me right kids.
SOLD OUT.
Originally called simply, ‘The Shakes’, the band’s blend of fiery blues-rock and Southern soul has garnered the group plenty of attention, including a recent slam dunk at the 2012 SXSW in Austin and an appearance on Conan O’Brien. Read glowing reviews from the LA Times and NPR, who offer nuggets of wisdom like, “We love introducing you to your next favorite band.” With all the buzz surrounding the group from Athens, Alabama it is pretty much the hottest ticket in the Valley this weekend. Heck, maybe ever.
Laugh It Up
But, oh horrors! What if you are not one of the lucky few Shake ticket holders? Never fear, Our Valley Events is here. We suggest the alternative, yet almost equally as awesome, Epic Comedy Hour at Flying Monkey. This evening is a barrel of laughs and we are thrilled it is returning to Fly Mo for a fifth presentation.
The set features seriously hilarious local comedic talent (especially Sam McLeroy who reminds this blogger of a younger and funnier Brett Butler). For those of you out there that like to plan ahead, I will tell you, the previous show was standing room only. The early bird gets the worm if you know what I mean. And pack your coolers folks, ’cause it’s BYOB. Rated R, for mature audiences only. Show starts at 8pm. Cost: $5.
See you out on the town!
