If you’ve ever walked by a piece of art by local artist Pamela Willis Watters then you knew it.
I can recall the first time I saw several of her pieces together – I stopped dead in my tracks and just stared. It’s the colors. They are brilliant, unique, and seem to glow right on the canvas. If you’ve never had the privilege of seeing Watters’ work before, then this is the event for you.
It’s the first ever Harrison Brothers Hardware Art Show featuring Local Artist Pamela Willis Watters on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 5:30 – 8 pm. I’m calling this FREE event a two-for-one plus bonus!
The two-for-one part is that you not only get to see all of the great things a visit to Harrison Brothers Hardware will hold in store for you, but you also get to see Watters’ gorgeous artwork and meet the artist in person. She’s debuting several new pieces for this art show, including favorite Huntsville scenes like Monte Sano, Jones Valley and some downtown buildings.
Harrison Brothers Refresher
Harrison Brothers Hardware has a new person behind the scenes with Karen Corp. The former owner of Signature Gallery is bringing some fantastic changes to the oldest operating hardware store in Alabama. And Pamela Willis Watters says that Corp’s “taste is impeccable.”
That is an outstanding endorsement, and this is the first of many events planned for the new gallery space inside the hardware store.

Pure Color
Now, I’m going to let Watters bio explain a little bit about her work.
“Ms. Watters’ landscapes reflect her love of the lush surroundings found in the Southeast. Whether the subject matter is figurative, still life or landscape, she captures excitement in her work by combining techniques of the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists with outrageous colors of the Fauves. She strives to project a feeling of shimmering light, movement and explosive colors within each painting that captures the imagination of the viewer.”
I spoke to Watters recently and she told me that often she will photograph a place and then change the image to black and white in Photoshop so as not to be influenced by the real colors of the setting. That way she can “use the ones that are in my head.”
I found this to be a fascinating tidbit about this self-taught artist who is so attracted to color.
Bonus
The plus bonus part I was referring to above? That’s where you get to enjoy the sounds of jazz duo Ken Watters and Keith Taylor at this event. I asked Watters about getting to work with her husband and she said they don’t often get to work together and it’s very fun when they do.
Recap
Okay, we’ve got Harrison Brothers Hardware shopping with a chance to meet and view the artwork of Pamela Willis Watters while listening to the the jazz sounds of Ken Watters & Keith Taylor on a Thursday evening on the square downtown! I see no reason whatsoever why you shouldn’t put the first Harrison Brothers Hardware Art Show on your calendar immediately.
I can assure you it will be a colorful event!
