Although I will admit to not being much of a sports person, the adrenaline rush of seeing a live game is incomparable to almost anything else (without having to actually bungee jump or cross paths with a beefy linebacker).
That’s what makes watching a roller derby game so addicting.
This fast-paced sport is the right mix of rambunctious showmanship and heart-pumping action needed to make it the perfect live event. Huntsville’s own roller derby team Dixie Derby Girls brings that action this weekend for their Skate Wars: Revenge of the Hits bout Saturday night, August 23, 2014.
The Force is Strong with This Team
Started in 2010, one of Dixie Derby Girls’ most popular event themes will have members from the Alabama Garrison 501st Legion representing in their full Star Wars regalia.
Expect to see Darth Vader himself enjoying food truck refreshments and a couple of Storm Troopers heading up their own Dixie Derby Girls cheerleading team as the Girls take on Vette City Roller Derby from Bowling Green, KY.
Seating is ample and includes bleachers as well as floor seating right in front of the track that will give the ultimate fan an up close and maybe-too-personal view of the carnage (Disclaimer: you must be 19 to sit track-side & derby girls might fall on you).
Food trucks Crave Heat, I Love Bacon and Sugar Belle will be parked outside of the event for hungry and thirsty derby fans.
All For Charity
This month the Dixie Derby Girls has partnered with Still Serving Veterans to make Skate Wars a military appreciation bout.
Part of the proceeds from this weekend’s game will go towards this charity, and active as well as retired military can get their tickets for $8 at the door with ID.
As this is the last game of the home season for the Dixie Derby Girls, they encourage audience members to fill the stands wearing their home colors of pink and black.
This event is family-friendly, but adult fans are welcome to join their favorite derby girls for an after-party at The End Zone following the bout.
