It is hard to come up with words to describe David Liebe Hart.
If you ever strike up a conversation with this loveable eccentric, don’t be surprised if he talks you through alien relationships, ghost dogs and the history of trains without skipping a beat.

The puppeteer, musician, artist and performer lives a larger than life existence out of Los Angeles, California, and is known for his role on Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job! David will be bringing some of his musical magic to Lowe Mill Arts March 16th ,accompanied by electronic musician, “Th’ Mole” Jonah Mociun.
I wanted to give y’all a sneak preview of the man behind the puppet before his first Lowe Mill show, so I snatched him out of orbit and got him to answer a couple of questions:
What is your favorite genre of music?
Oh I like all kinds – I love classical, I was trained on classical music when I was growing up in the Christian Science church, and I was in a punk rock band in my earlier days. Now I mostly write electronic and Christian Contemporary music.
I stumbled on a song of yours called Pickleman and Mr. Moose. Is this about an experience you had growing up?
A lot of people ask me questions about this song, and I love telling them about it because I am a big believer in ghosts. When I was a kid my family moved to a house in south Chicago that was haunted. There was a police officer that used to live there that told us that his three German Shepherds that he used to own lived in the house. My sister and I saw two of them quite a bit growing up, and our experiences in that house was the inspiration for Pickleman and Mr. Moose.
Do you own any strange pets?
There are two fish that that look like frogs– a guy paid me five dollars for two of them. I don’t know what kind of fish they are, but they are round with bulging eyes and they have strange looking fins. I keep them in a 10 gallon tank. I also have sharks in a 40 gallon tank that look like catfish – they grind food up like a blender.
You have a song called Macarma about a woman that is an extraterrestrial and your girlfriend — is based on a woman that you know?
I write a lot of songs about aliens, and a lot of them are about past relationships that I have had with women. I believe that we are not alone in the universe, and that extraterrestrials are looking for love just like everyone on earth is.
Is all of the music and the art you produce based in reality, or fantasy?
It’s really a mixture of both. A lot of the time I can’t tell what is fantasy and reality, but I think that makes it more fun for the audience. You will find a lot of that in my shows.
