Cigar Box Guitar Festival
So this weekend is the 8th Annual Cigar Box Guitar Festival – and there’s just too much going on for one day – or one floor at Lowe Mill. The festivities begin on Friday, June 1 at 6pm with the ALWAYS FREE Concerts on the Dock. Pat Nickel and Justin Johnson will perform from 6-9pm, and it’s going to be packed, so come early and bring your favorite cold drinks! (and chairs, blankets, etc).
The fun starts at high noon on Saturday, June 2 when the doors to Lowe Mill and Flying Monkey open. Check out Bill Jehle’s Cigar Box Guitar Museum, demonstrations, and if you wanna dig deep into the world of the Cigar Box Guitar, don’t miss the documentary film.
Jam sessions will be breaking out left and right (that’s what happens when people walk around with a cigar box guitar…just about any time two or more meet up they usually start playing a little something).
There will also be some “official” jam sessions, too.
- 2:30pm: The Texicans play
- 5:30pm: 5ive O’Clock Charlie takes the stage
- Microwave Dave
- Jone Lowe
- Pat and John Nickel
- 7 Hills Stomp
- Earl Williams
- Justin Johnson
- Little Johnny Kantreed
And you won’t believe it, but this Saturday Night Extravaganza is only $15! It’s going to be too hot to be outdoors…so c’mon down to the Cigar Box, definitely the coolest place to be this weekend!

Monica Yother claims to be the last person in Huntsville to buy press-type. That's how long she's been a graphic designer. Since 1987 she's been creating all the usual graphic designer-y stuff like logos, brochures, billboards and websites, and won some nice awards. She's also an illustrator with a studio at Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment; her work for Huntsville Ballet allows her to showcase her signature style. She writes (a lot!) for clients and her own blog, and holds monthly workshops to help people start blogging. Recently she partnered with her ten-year old daughter to raise money for horse rescue. (Check out myhorsesart.com). She loves her husband, two kids and mini-dachshund. You can visit Monica in the studio at Lowe Mill, (studio 114, first floor which she shares with Love it Out Photography), or online at www.my-designs.net
