Ever find yourself rushing around all week, just waiting for the weekend? Only to have Saturday morning finally arrive and you realize that you forgot to make plans? Should you find yourself in this , I have just the solution and it’s conveniently located in downtown Huntsville: the Breakfast Trolley Tour at Constitution Village!
Morning Fun
I know that Saturday mornings can be a bit sacred. Trust me, I love sleeping in more than anyone. But I got up (at the the crack of nine) to be downtown at 10am since I made my Breakfast Trolley reservation in advanced, which the folks at Constitution Village recommend you do.
If you don’t make a reservation in advance, you should get there early to make sure that you get a seat on the trolley.
About the Tours
So what exactly does one do on a Breakfast Trolley Tour? You grab your drink of choice (coffee, juice, water, etc) and then hop on the 1920’s style trolleys where the historic interpreters guide you through the historic downtown while you chow down on a muffin of choice. As we drove through the gorgeous downtown setting (in the lovely air conditioned trolleys- very important in the hot summer months), we learned all about the past inhabitants, their highs and lows, very a la History Channel.
And if you’re into history at all, you’ll love this tour. And if even if you’re not, you;’ll love this tour. Because the stories aren’t told in a very history class manner. More like you’re catching up with your old friends. You know if your friends were Jesse James.
Who Should Go:
This is great event for folks of all ages. Our tour included a little girl as young as four all the way up to a group of seniors. And everyone got something different out of it.
Fun Facts I Learned:
I’ve been on several historic tours of downtown Huntsville, including the Huntsville Ghost Tour, but I still learned some new fun facts about our fair city. My friend Alicia who came with me had never been on any such tours and
Here’s some of the fun facts I learned on my Breakfast Trolley Tour:
- The downtown Huntsville Bank was not robbed by Jesse James
- The land the original Huntsville Hospital was built on was once a brothel. It was left to the city by a famous Madame
- Backwards home
- The true identity of Lily Flagg
- The origins of the spite house

Taralyn
Good to know, Larkin! This is a great, family friendly idea for a lazy Saturday or Sunday morning. I’m also thinking this would be a good idea for folks who may have visitors in from out of town during the summer. And cute pics, too!
