It’s Friday, I’m In Love

It’s Friday, I’m In Love

I borrow the timeless words and ever-sticky melody from the Cure when I say, “Thursday I don’t care about you. It’s Friday, I’m in love.” I am in love, with the homegrown entertainment gracing the Valley this Friday. First up, for your listening pleasure, we’ve got The Alabama Shakes at Crossroads. We love introducing you to your next favorite band, and with all the buzz surrounding the group from Athens, Alabama it is the hottest ticket in the Valley this weekend. Heck, maybe ever.

The Double-Helix Dash

The Double-Helix Dash

Last September this blogger went behind-the-scenes at HudsonAlpha. What I saw there was a world-class research facility in my backyard. Gazing across the former cow pasture fields that surround HudsonAlpha’s über-modern structure, I could very well have been in Palo Alto rather than Alabama. Whether it’s through initiatives like the Dash, or through research performed in their labs, HudsonAlpha is here to improve human health. Help them do so — AND help yourself — by doing The Dash this April.

And do you know what, Huntsville? There is an excellent series of classic movies showing every Monday night — for free — at the Huntsville Public Library downtown.

“There’s Nothing to Do in Huntsville!”

“There’s Nothing to Do in Huntsville!”

Posted on18. Jan, 2012 by .

I’m one of those rare, native folks that calls the Rocket City my hometown. Spending my formative years in Huntsville, Alabama there was an often-heard battle cry amongst my teenaged peers: “There’s nothing to do in Huntsville!” This was usually followed with a whiny, “It’s so boring here. I can’t wait to leave.” And I did. In 2010, I returned to find more than a few changes had taken place during the decade I was absent from the Tennessee Valley….

Sweetest First Date in The Rocket City

Sweetest First Date in The Rocket City

Last weekend I went to Monaco with a very charming young man. We were all set to see a matinee, snuggled up in those overstuffed leather chairs at Prive, when there was a slight hitch in the plan. Upon our arrival (albeit a few minutes late) the show was sold out. Awkward? Yes! However, we [...]
