Each year, Huntsville, AL celebrates Armed Forces Week, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County and the Association of the U.S. Army and honoring the brave men and women of our armed forces. This year, Armed Forces Week 2014 is August 2 – 9.
Don’t miss any of the festivities. It’s going to be a great week!
AUSA Night at the Huntsville Stars
- Date: Saturday, August 2, 6:30 pm
- Location: Joe Davis Stadium
Concerts in the Park: The U.S. Army Materiel Command Band
- Date: Monday, August 4
- Location: Big Spring Park
Final Concerts in the Park presented by The Arts Council and City of Huntsville. This is a free event. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own seating, picnic dinners (Food Trucks will be on-site), and dancing shoes. Leashed pets are also welcome.
Fireworks will follow the show, weather permitting.
U.S. Army Soldier Show
- Date: August 5 & 6 at 7:00 pm
- Location: VBC Mark C Smith Concert Hall
Tickets are no longer available until day of the show when available seats will be filled prior to show time. Admission is free.
Armed Forces Celebration Salute Luncheon
- Date: Wednesday, August 6, noon – 1:15 pm
- Location: VBC North Hall
This year marks the 30th year since the community began hosting a luncheon. This year AMC’s GEN Dennis Via will speak. Registration required. Tickets are $40 for Chamber of Commerce member organizations and $65 for non-members.
Purple Heart Day Awards
- Date: Thursday, August 7, 10:00 am
- Location: Veteran’s Memorial
The public is invited to attend.
“Iron Mike” Armed Forces Week Golf Tournament
- Date: Friday, August 8, 8:00 am
- Location: Redstone Links, 4140 Goss Rd 35809
Presented by the Association of the United States Army Redstone-Huntsville Chapter, the tournament is named the Iron Mike Tournament because of the 27 Inch Trophy awarded to the winning team which has the nationally recognized representation of an Army Soldier.
Active duty cost $65, all others $75. Team sponsorship is $300. Register in advance.
2014 AFC Exhibition Softball Games
- Date: Friday, August 8, at 5:00 pm
- Location: Kiwanis Sportsplex on Patton Road
At 5:00 pm Team Redstone (with many General Officers and Commanders from Redstone Arsenal) will play Team AUSA . At 7:00, the Huntsville / Madison County Team (with Mayors and city personnel) will play the Senior League All Stars (featuring many retired senior leaders). Pre-game activities start about 4:30 PM (National Anthem, etc.). Sponsored by the Association of the US Army.
FREE Admissions:
- Burritt on the Mountain will provide free admission for military ID card holders and their dependents August 5 – 9.
- U.S. Space & Rocket Center – All active and retired military, their spouses and dependents enjoy free general admission during Armed Forces Week (*Does not include IMAX or Digital movie).
- Huntsville Botanical Garden will be free to active & retired military & their families.
- Earlyworks Children’s Museum, Alabama Constitution Village and The Historic Depot – No admission charged for all military & their immediate family members.
- Huntsville Museum of Art – No admission charged for all military with an ID & their immediate family.
- Sci-Quest – Free for military ID card holders & their family.
- Veterans Memorial Museum – Admission is free to all active military ID card holders & discounted for retired military & family members.
- YMCA (all 3 Madison County locations)- All military ID card holders and their immediate family members may enjoy daily free access.
