The second day of March should be in your brain,
like on your white shirt sits a grapey – grape stain.
It is a day like no other, as one can deduce,
it’s the birthday of the great Dr Seuss!
Story after story I read to my young’uns
it twists my tongue and makes my nose smell onions.
The kids laugh and giggle with excitement and glee
as I read them stories about Truffula Trees!
Speaking of trees, please pardon the cue
but did you hear “The Lorax” is coming to a theater near you!
And on the birthday of you know who.
Other things this day to keep you in a rhyming trance
head on over to your favorite library branch.
Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration
It is all part of the Seuss glorification!
Two more stanzas I am not sure I can write
I should just keep going if for nothing but spite.
Just enjoy the works of this author who is not so remote
and I will end this disaster with my favorite Seuss quote.
“So the writer who breeds more words than he needs,
is making a chore for the reader who reads.”
So it finally ends, what a good deed!
