Believe it or not, Huntsville is a pretty hot tourist destination.
Every now and then, it’s fun to play the tourist right here at home and experience the fun for yourself.
To help you be a hometown tourist, we’ve compiled a list of Touristy Things in Huntsville You Should do at Least Once.
1. Ride the Space Shot at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
What does a rocket launch really feel like? Find out for yourself when your hit 4 G’s shooting up 140 ft. Screaming is allowed!
2. Shop at Harrison Brothers Hardware.
Shop for amazing local art and fine crafts, food, vintage toys, kitchen items and much more at Harrison Brothers. When you get ready to leave, your items will be rung up on a 1907 National Cash Register. What else would you expect from a 117 year old continuously operated store?
3. Meet artists at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment.
From seeing artists at work in their studio space to attending a gallery show, Lowe Mill is a great place to find your new favorite artist.
4. Go on a Downtown Dish Food Tour.
Experience Downtown Huntsville in a brand new way, as you visit and eat your way through 6 local establishments, all on a pretty fantastic walking tour.
5. Take a Ghost Walk.
Speaking of walking tours, why not learn about Huntsville’s paranormal history and hear some great ghost stories too! Ghost Walk tours run from June – October.
BONUS: They take off from Harrison Brothers Hardware, so you can knock out #2 and #5 together!
6. Huntsville Madison County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) self-guided tour.
Spend a lovely weather afternoon on a self-guided tour of Huntsville’s historic hot spots. You may learn something you didn’t know about this place we call home.
7. Visit a local Brewery.
Madison County is quickly becoming known for it’s locally brewed craft beer. Visit a brewery, take a tour, and sample the local craft beer for a unqiue “tourist” experience.
8. Walk through Big Spring Park.
Exceptionally beautiful in the summer, a visit to Big Spring Park is a must.
BONUS: Head under Monroe St. to see Thrasher Fountain on the other side.
9. See the view from Burritt on the Mountain.
The view from atop Monte Sano at Burritt on the Mountain is one of the best there is. You can even see the model Saturn V rocket at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
