Sights, Sounds and Smells and Tastes of Art!

Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment is home to so many art forms. On a recent Saturday afternoon, I took a few moments to record the sights, sounds and smells that surround me here in an old industrial building that has been given new life through art.
I smell cinnamon, vanilla, ginger, garlic, something really tasty to eat, rosemary, oil paint, cedar, coffee. The tables are full at the Happy Tummy and some people sit on the dock eating gourmet treats from Chef Will’s.
I hear conversations between friends as they stroll through the studios; laughter; soft guitar strumming; footsteps coming from the second floor; the rumbling of something being rolled around up there; conversations between artists about their work as they share ideas and inspirations; an occasional dog bark; water running from one of the studios; a machine of some kind – maybe from one of the jewelry makers; more laughter; a hammer tapping on something; someone’s music playing softly; an artist in one of the studios greeting some friends; a family goes by with busy kids asking lots of questions…and more laughter.
I see colors on the walls in canvases and on paper and in frames; glittering jewelry; beautiful glass that has been formed into incredible shapes and images; glass panels in lovely colors and hues; fabrics in fresh colors and all kinds of patterns that have been used to create beautiful and original clothing; photographs of families and photographs of individuals; art that fills the large walls; art you must look at closely to appreciate the detail; art made of recycled materials; instruments made of unlikely elements; even the walls and floors of the building itself have such character they must be appreciated by themselves; I see books and vinyl records, and everyday objects that have been used to make a statement or ask a question.
Art is everywhere here at Lowe Mill. Come to see, to listen to taste and smell. It’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
About Monica Yother
Monica Yother claims to be the last person in Huntsville to buy press-type. That's how long she's been a graphic designer. Since 1987 she's been creating all the usual graphic designer-y stuff like logos, brochures, billboards and websites, and won some nice awards. She's also an illustrator with a studio at Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment; her work for Huntsville Ballet allows her to showcase her signature style. She writes (a lot!) for clients and her own blog, and holds monthly workshops to help people start blogging. Recently she partnered with her ten-year old daughter to raise money for horse rescue. She loves her husband, two kids and mini-dachshund. You can visit Monica in the studio at Lowe Mill (studio 114, first floor which she shares with Love it Out Photography), or online.
